Autocad electrical 2011 training manual

Drawings Create drawings, add drawings to a project, and manage the drawing settings. Schematic Terminals Insert single and multi-level terminals. Wires and Wire Numbers Insert wires, wire numbers, and signal arrows. Cross-Referencing Select a cross-reference format and add cross-referencing to your drawings. Panel Layouts Insert panel symbols from a list of schematic components or the panel icon menu.

I prefer SDI mode when working on a network because AutoCAD Electrical runs faster and SDI mode prevents me from inadvertently having a dozen drawings open at the same time, thus locking my colleagues out of those pages, in case we are working on the same project together.

This means you can have multiple drawings open at once and the database manager must do its best to track everything you are doing to each drawing in real-time, while also maintaining the last saved state of the drawing, in case you choose not to save your changes to any particular drawing. Next press enter. Of course many of us have used plain AutoCAD to create electrical drawings in the past, but it just isn't much fun when there is no database manager to automate the process.

YOu have to type in tags, wire numbers, rung numbers, etc. It's just much more fun to go to work when you have automation to your advantage. MDI mode for Electrical has resulted in some stability issues but the developers continue to improve this. The competitive programs, being database-driven anyway, operate in SDI mode only, since they rely so much on data integrity.

The drawings contain the intelligence so the database will be built fresh again from the drawings. Some may argue that they don't mind the occasional crash of the database, given the advantage of MDI mode, and the fact that the database can rebuild itself from the drawings anyway. So why is there a project database for each project in Electrical, since the drawings contain the data? To expedite processes within Electrical - to drive the automation.

The truth is, MDI mode is quite a lot to ask the database manager to handle. It must track the last saved state of each drawing in the project, plus the current unsaved state. Maybe, without realizing it, you have a dozen drawings open, and your colleagues each have 5 or 6 open.

While each of you make changes to the project drawings the database manager within Electrical must track the changes made by you and your colleagues and finally, as the drawings are closed, it has to reconcile the changes made by all. It's quite an undertaking but the developers at Autodesk accepted the challenge The fact is, if you switch to a competitor of Electrical, you would have no other choice but SDI. Those of us who have the need for speed and want to limit the number of open drawings to one per user, appreciate their efforts.

Imagine that you are a developer at Autodesk. You need to know which mode the customer is using so you have your copy of Electrical set the same way, as you try to reproduce the issue. I have found that quite a number of "bugs" aren't bugs at all, but workflow issues due to a lack of understanding about what is going on behind the scenes as Electrical tries to track our every move. When we stray away from the commands within the Electrical menu tabs the ones that trigger the appropriate database actions and we use standard AutoCAD drafting commands instead, things can get out of synchronization.

But some issues do turn out to be bugs so the fine folks at Autodesk exercise due diligence in trying to replicate the issues we report. I was answering Joshua's question regarding the definition of SDI and for the benefit of others who may search this forum in the future for information about SDI.

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was guessing what might be causing the unhandled exception errors. You should continue to send the error reports to Autodesk. I assume you have already tried a repair install, right? Have you installed all updates? Have you recently updated Windows? Any changes to your Antivirus software?

Upgraded your video driver? We recently did a fresh install of windows and Autocad in an attempt to fix these errors that were occuring. It all worked fine for a month or so, and know I can't get any work done. No changes to your hardware? Same PC? These unhandled exceptions are rare anymore. I see maybe one every 3 months, maybe even 6 months. Actually I can't remember the last time it happened. I do get an error beep when I close Electrical if I have been working on multiple large projects all day.

It produces an ACAD. ERR file but the file is blank. It only happens when I close down so no harm is done. It's just annoying. It has been happening since version I assume there is some incompatibility with my laptop, since it doesn't happen with the desktop and I haven't seen anyone else post anything about it. There can be slight nuances with your system that disagree with any software, including Electrical, especially since Electrical runs background processes while you work.

I just ran into trouble installing a demo of a competitive program from Italy and they said it was caused by my Antivirus program. Perhaps they're correct, but I have installed many other programs while my Antivirus was running. You might try temporarily disabling your antivirus program before you re-install, or at least before you try the repair.

Then install all of the service packs. The service packs are very important to solve stability issues with a new release. Thanks to send CER report and dump files to us for further investigation, i have received them.

Now team is investigating it, will update the result to you as soon as possible. I have now uninstalled Autocad - turned off windows fire wall and virus protection. Then have done a fresh install of Autocad Elec. I have been having similar crashes. We are running on a ACE network application with several work stations.

All are on XP Pro. I am in an active project and adding drawings from older projects. Save As to rename the drawing and save it to the current project folder. Add the renamed drawing to my active project. So far so good. If I now open the drawing properties in the active project and type in the changes everything works as it is expected to.

If, on the other hand, I go back to the old drawing and open its drawing properties to copy and paste the info I will get a fatal error every time, another report to AutoCAD Electrical Error Report. You can get a little artistic for your own amusement when it really locks up your video - see attached. Have not found the sequence of events for the other 99 crashes but this is one landmine to avoid. If you do see a repeatable error please post your work around, it will help the rest of us. Many issues I encounter while analyzing drawings sent to me for troubleshooting contain corruptions caused by manual manipulation of drawing data and support files.

How are you copying drawing properties? It appears that you are using lots of plain AutoCAD workflow. Electrical has its own code to handle things and maintain the data integrity of the drawings. Course duration is approximately 1 hour and 36 minutes. Topics include adding wire data to more Course duration is approximately 3 hours and 35 minutes.

Topics covered include wir more Course duration is approximately 3. During the course you will learn to use project-related tools to access and edit drawings, draw and edit with commands that are specific to the electrical design environment.
